The story so far.
I am in the process of updating my wife’s 2003 HP laptop so that she can still use it for another few years. I increased the laptop’s memory from a puny 512MB to 1G. I cloned and swapped out her 30 gig hard drive with an 80 gig hard drive.
I ran into a roadblock in that HP would not honor its recall of my wife’s laptop battery, so I ordered a battery instead from a third party.
Two weeks ago.
And Friday night, it finally arrived. All the way from Hong Kong.
I slapped the battery into the unit – yes, it fit, I was kinda worried that it wouldn’t – and it spent the night charging up.
This morning, I checked the laptop – and lo and behold, the battery was nicely charged and fully functional. The laptop retained its power, even after I disconnected the power cord.
So we have full success. A complete laptop upgrade that only took about two and a half weeks. 🙂
Now hopefully my wife will appreciate all the hard work I put into this project.
We shall see.
I love my Gateway laptop —but the battery it came with was totally useless and now is only good for boot up while I scramble for the power cord.
